Pre-school

Lewisham pre-school learning alliance (LPSLA)

The LPSLA is part of a national education charity which supports pre-schools, playgroups and nurseries across the country.

The Lewisham Branch has offices in Downham and it manages, supports and advises pre-schools, toddler groups and drop-ins across the Borough of Lewisham.

LPSLA pre-schools offer children aged 2.5 - 5 years an opportunity to learn through play. Pre-schools follow the same foundation stage as nursery classes in schools.

LPSA pre-schools are inspected by OfSTED, and are also subject to Good Practice Guidelines regularly monitored by LPSLA.

Parents can put the child's name down on a waiting list when s/he is 2 years old. Places are allocated in date of birth order, although special needs and other criteria may also be taken into account.

Subsidised places for children in need

The Early Years Service funds a number of subsidised places at pre-schools that are part of the LPSLA for children where medical, developmental or social need has been identified.
