Women’s Health Scrutiny Review Group

Following on from its review of Men's Health, the Healthier Communities Select Committee has commissioned a new Scrutiny Review to investigate health inequalities faced by women in Lewisham.

Background

Health inequalities are unacceptable. They start early in life and persist not only into old age but subsequent generations. Recent evidence suggests that the health inequalities faced by women in Lewisham are worsening in comparison to the national average. To address this serious issue, the Director of Public Health identified the need to develop a comprehensive approach to women’s health.

Objectives

The Women’s Health Inequalities Review Group will investigate the healthcare provision for women in Lewisham by:

  • identifying the health inequalities faced by women in the borough, comparing the situation in Lewisham with the national picture
  • developing a sound understanding of the causes of these inequalities and their associated effects
  • engaging with women on the health issues affecting them and understanding the user experience of Lewisham’s health services
  • using this evidence to develop proposals that will reduce health inequalities for women in Lewisham

How to get involved

We would like the public to get involved and make an active contribution to the Women’s Health Inequalities Review. This could consist of giving evidence to the review, attending meetings, providing ideas in respect of improving women’s health services in the borough, or just responding to the recommendations that will be made.
