Redevelopment of Forest Hill Pools

Introduction

In February 2008 the Mayor of Lewisham approved the redevelopment of the Forest Hill Pools site to bring new leisure facilities to Forest Hill. The new leisure centre will include a six lane 25m pool and dry fitness facilities, and the redevelopment may include some new homes.

Three concepts for the redevelopment of the site have been produced reflecting varying levels of housing and leisure provision.

The Design

The shape and layout of the buildings in all three options are designed to take advantage of the site's nature and location, for example:

  • curved leisure building line creates pedestrian space and celebrates the library
  • new approach from town centre opens up pedestrian space on Dartmouth road and created new public square
  • main entrance faces the town centre, bringing more activity to the area, animating the surrounding spaces and bringing more custom to local businesses.
