Marion was a teacher in Lewisham for over 23 years, rising to acting head teacher of a secondary school, and then worked in prison education management for three years prior to retirement. She has lived in the area for over 40 years and her two sons were educated locally. Elected to represent Sydenham in May 2002, she is deeply involved with the day-to-day life of the community.

Marion is a trustee and volunteer worker for Sydenham Garden and has been involved in the development of the site since Lewisham Council was first approached in 2002. For many years Marion has also been a trustee of the Sydenham International Music Festival, helping wherever needed.

Since the inception of Lewisham Homes Marion has been a member of the Board, and supports its goal to sustain safer neighbourhoods, build community spirit and provide adequate youth community facilities on or near its housing.

Key to achieving this locally is Marion’s ongoing work as a member of the Sydenham Safer Neighbourhoods Team Panel, Sydenham and Forest Hill Youth Forum, the Secretary of the Friends of Rockbourne Youth Club and, for the last 12 years, a Governor of Forest Hill School.

Marion is a member of the Children and Young People Select Committee and a member of the Management Committee of Abbey Manor College, for students who have experienced difficulties in previous placements, including those with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties.

Marion has been appointed to the following:
