Telegraph Hill 18 June 2008 meeting

Meeting overview

The first Telegraph Hill Local Assembly was held at Meadowgate School on Tuesday 18 June. A great turn out of 70 people, representative of the Telegraph Hill area, attended the assembly. It was particularly welcome to see young people getting involved.

Feedback from attendees

Feedback from the assembly was largely positive, the vast majority of residents who attended stated that they would attend an assembly in the future. Further feedback showed that the process had allowed local people to meet new people in the area and had brought together people from different backgrounds.

‘Today's assembly was very good, very organised, it helped me learn more about the Telegraph Hill Ward, and helped me know more people from the local area’ .

What we agreed

A wide variety of issues came of the assembly which will help inform the priority plan for the ward. The top ten issues were as follows:

During the meeting, residents raised a number of suggestions to tackle these issues, suggestions included:

  • Bring reformed youths and reformed parents into the area to work with youths, peer and role models.
  • Equip parents with more understanding of anti-social behaviour.
  • Try and give young people a more positive outlook.
  • Clay House Estate needs better lighting around the estate and CCTV so that there are no hidden places for drug dealers to operate.

The group, chaired by Cllr Flood, will meet between now and the next assembly with the purpose of examining the issues in more detail and to plan the next Assembly meeting to be held on 27 September.
