16 October 2008 meeting

The second Evelyn assembly took place on 16 October 2008 with around 70 people in attendance.

The main topics of discussion were the latest developments in Evelyn Ward, the consolidation of the main five issues for the Evelyn priority plan and the Evelyn Locality Fund.

Co-ordinating group

The co-ordinating group had met twice in between assembly meetings. The co-ordinating group had discussed the information from the first assembly, and helped plan for the second assembly.

Engagement in Evelyn

Work is currently underway to ensure that the assembly is engaging with all residents, students and employees working within the Evelyn ward and not just the people who attend the assembly meetings.

Community updates

Feedback was given on the yellow lines for the roundabout on the corner of Oxestalls Road and Grove Street. Public consultation notices will be placed around the area advising of this development and contact details for further information.

Information was given regarding the renewal of the entry phones system and the security doors to eight blocks on the Pepys Estate.

Lastly, information was given to the assembly about the Pepys Public Meeting for environmental justice - further details of these can be found under the documents section.

Priority plan

The assembly was then asked to discuss the five main issues to come out of the first assembly in greater detail and to look at some possible solutions for these. At the end of this each table was asked to feed back to the assembly on what they had discussed. (please see Table Feedback for full details).

The assembly then voted on whether they agreed that these were the main issues which would be placed on the priority plan for the first year.

This was put to the vote via mood cards and the assembly agreed that the following topics would make up the assembly’s first year priority plan:

  • not enough youth facilities
  • too much traffic
  • anti social behaviour
  • dumping of rubbish
  • drug problems.

Evelyn Locality Fund

The Locality Fund small grants process (along participatory budgetary lines) was discussed in more depth and the assembly was asked if the grant categories should be opened in line with the priorities.

After discussion, the assembly chose to make this open to any group delivering any project that may directly benefit those living, working and learning in Evelyn ward.
