Who has my details?

The electoral register appears in two versions – the full register and the edited register.

The full register contains all the names and addresses of everyone who is entitled to vote. The law states who can purchase the full register and the purposes it can be used for. These include, to prevent and detect crime and to check your identity when you apply for credit. It is an offence to pass on copies of the full register or use if for any other purpose.

Members of the public can view the full register by making an appointment with staff within the electoral services office. However, members of the public can only make handwritten notes of any particulars contained within the full register.

The edited register can be purchased by anybody and can be used be any purpose, for example, direct mailing. You can now choose to have your name excluded from the edited register. If you do not want your details shown on the edited register please tick the relevant box on the registration form you complete.
