If your property has been adapted or has special facilities because someone who lives there is physically disabled, you may qualify to be charged at a lower valuation band.
Apply online for the council tax disabled relief.
For example, if your property is in band D, you will only have to pay the charge for band C.
To qualify for a lower tax band the property must have been modified to provide one of these:
- an extra bathroom or kitchen for the disabled person to use
- enough room for a wheelchair to be used inside at all times
- a room that is mainly used to meet the needs of the disabled person.
From 1 April 2000, properties in band A are eligible to apply for a reduction.
Council Tax Benefit and people with disabilities
If you are awarded disabled relief, you may still be eligible for Council Tax Benefit as well if you have a low income.

What happens next
Your property will need to be inspected by a Council officer to make sure the adaptations are sufficient to qualify for a reduction.
Once we receive your application an inspector will contact you to arrange a suitable time to visit.
