At any bank or building society
You can pay your council tax at any bank by cheque or in cash. Some banks may charge for this if you are not one of their customers. You will need to complete your banks’ payment slip, quoting our bank sort code 08-90-29, our bank account number 61073843 and your council tax reference number.
PayPoint
You can only pay by cash at PayPoint. This facility is available in local shops or anywhere you see the PayPoint sign. You can use them whenever the shops are open, including weekends and evenings and there is no charge. Please use the link on the right or phone our council tax helpline on 020 8690 9666 to find your nearest outlet. All you need is a bill or a payment card/slip with a bar-code on it.
Post Office
You can pay your council tax at your local post office by cash, cheque or debit card. Credit cards are not accepted. All you need is a bill or your payment card/slip with a bar-code on it. The cashier will scan the bar-code and give you a receipt for your payment.
By post
Cheques can be sent to London Borough of Lewisham, Council Tax, PO Box 1221, London SE6 4RT. (This address is for payments only.) Please make your cheque payable to London Borough of Lewisham and write your council tax account number on the back. Please do not send cash through the post. Receipts are not issued unless you provide a self-addressed envelope. Please allow 7 days for your payment to reach us.
Telephone banking
You need to have signed up with your bank in order to pay your bills by this method. Once you have done this you can make a payment 24 hours a day, 7 days a week simply by quoting our bank sort code 08-90-29, our bank account number 61073843 and your council tax account number.
Standing order
Your bank or building society will make the payment, but you have to tell them each year how much and when to pay. Please complete the form on the right and then send your completed form to your bank or building society.
Over the phone
You can use our automated 24 hour payment hotline on 020 8690 8707 to make a payment using your debit or credit card. If you pay by credit card a surcharge of 1.9% will be added to the amount you pay. There is no charge for debit card payments.
