Births, marriages and deaths records
The register office keeps records of the births, marriages, civil ceremonies, deaths and stillbirths registered in the borough of Lewisham from 1837 to the present day.
Book an appointment
To search our records in the register office, you'll need to book an appointment. Call 020 8690 2128 or come into the office at 368 Lewisham High Street.
Searching the indexes
For an £18 fee, our staff will give you access to the register indexes for up to 6 hours (or two people for 3 hours). We do not give access to the registers themselves.
The index for a particular year records only the name(s) and the date of marriages, civil ceremonies, births, deaths or stillbirths. For more detailed information, you should ask a member of staff to make a search in the registers themselves.
Information from the registers
When you have completed your own search of the register indexes, you may ask a member of staff to find more detailed information in the registers.
Once we have found the record you requested, we can issue a copy certificate of the registration.
Cost of copy certificates: £7.00 each
(price correct November 2008)
Burial and cremation records
The bereavement services office holds over 190,000 burial and cremation records from Lewisham cemeteries and Hither Green crematorium.
The borough's records are not available in electronic format, but staff can do a search of the records for a fee of £33. |
