Each year Lewisham invests on a range of works, services and supplies, much of which is provided by the private sector. Lewisham wishes to use its considerable spending power to promote best practice and the best possible standards, as well as fulfilling its duties under Best Value.
Along with ensuring that firms can demonstrate their ability to provide the type of work, service or supply for which they are being considered, Lewisham also wants to ensure that firms comply with its Code of Practice for Contractors, Suppliers and Service Providers before being considered for any contract to be let.
The aim, where possible, is to help firms to bring about improvements in their practices, rather than exclude them from tendering. This will increase the Council's choice of contractors, and enhance the services provided to the public.
