Hairdressers no longer need to be registered, although a number of regulations have been made under The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974. These apply whether you are self-employed or an employee and whether mobile or based at a salon.
Massage and special treatments premises offering sauna, massage and sun beds have to be licensed, as do the therapists who provide the treatment.
Most skin piercing practitioners also need be registered with the Council. This includes acupuncture, tattooing, ear-piercing and electrolysis. Registration is required to cover both the person conducting the practice and the premises used for that purpose.
