The health and safety team is responsible for checking offices, shops, warehouses, leisure centres and other non-industrial premises. Other premises may be covered by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
We need to make sure that customers, visitors, employees and members of the public can use premises safely. This is done with regular unannounced inspections, which happen more regularly if the premises are considered high risk. They also investigate accidents and complaints.
If you are an employer you have a duty to protect the health, safety and welfare of your employees. You are also obliged to protect the health and safety of anyone who may be affected by your business’s activity. If you are a business owner you also have legal obligations.
