About Fairtrade in Lewisham
The ‘Lewisham for Fairtrade’ campaign, led by the Council, has been actively promoting Fairtrade within the borough since its launch in July 2004, encouraging residents to support Fairtrade and businesses to sell Fairtrade products.
Lewisham has been awarded Fairtrade status. This means that the Council has completed a number of goals:
- passing a resolution to support Fairtrade and to serve Fairtrade tea and coffee in Council buildings and meetings
- the creation of a business directory listing the retail outlets and catering outlets in the borough selling, stocking and or using Fairtrade products
- encouraging the use of Fairtrade products by a number of local work places and community organisations
- attracting popular support for the campaign and establishing a steering group.
